- Bible Verses
As we face the trials of life, it is sadly only natural for us to lose heart and from time to time to turn from the God we normally worship and believe. There are many stories in the Bible of great men of God failing to trust the Lord and instead forging ahead with their own plans. How can we succeed where Noah, David, Peter, and others lost sight of God? Thankfully we find a plethora of Bible verses about trusting God and the advantages of doing so throughout scripture. The accounts of the faithful and the wise words of men like Solomon can lead us into a stronger relationship with God as they change how we view His plans. Here are some of our favorite Bible verses about trusting God and believing what He says.
“Jesus said to them, ‘I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.’”
Many of the people who are following Jesus at the beginning of John 6 are doing so only because He was able to miraculously feed them bread. Knowing this, He reminds the people that He has so much more to offer than just food. While we can trust God to provide for our daily needs, remember that He also has a higher purpose for you.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
This is one of the best Bible verses about trusting God because it encapsulates the simplicity of our relationship with God. The Lord isn’t just there to help when you want Him to, but He is someone we can rely on at all times. Instead of putting ourselves on the throne for 90% of the time, what would our lives be like if we truly believed Him and acknowledged Him every day?
“And Jesus said to him, ‘If you can? All things are possible to him who believes.’ Immediately the boy’s father cried out and said, ‘I do believe; help my unbelief.’”
Jesus encountered a number of people throughout His ministry and each had their own level of faith with which they were trusting Him. For this one parent, it seems like the promise of healing is too good to be true. He approaches Christ with a sense of desperation as he has almost lost all hope of his son being made well. When God calls him out for a lack of faith, he responds by basically saying, “I’m giving you all that I have.” What makes this one of the best Bible verses about trusting God is that it recognizes our imperfect faith and emphasizes why we need to trust Him better.
1 Corinthians 1:25
“Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men, and the weakness of God is stronger than men.”
Why do we often trust the thought leaders of our day rather than the God of the universe? There is much to be learned from wise counsel, but even an intellectual man’s best thoughts are inferior to the wisdom of God. By placing your faith in God you will be walking down the best path.
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.”
Do you ever think about the rewards for your belief? By turning the throne of our lives over to God, we are setting ourselves up for a number of gifts. Sometimes following the Lord will save us from a traumatic experience or financial ruin. Other times we may face persecution but come out the other side a better person. First and foremost, however, our belief results in salvation through Christ.
Psalm 37:3 - Bible Verses About Trusting God
“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and cultivate faithfulness.”
The bitterness of comparison is something of which we should all rid ourselves. In Psalm 37, David is telling us not to worry about the prosperity of evildoers or to fret over our own suffering. If we want to see the Lord work, if we want to live a life reflective of our beliefs, we simply need to trust in Him and do what we can to spread His fruit. Do good in your community and help it to prosper. If adversity and trials arrive, cast those worries onto God.
“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth does not become weary or tired. His understanding is inscrutable. He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the Lord will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary.”
This is one of the best Bible verses about trusting God for everyone from athletes to pastors to even normal people like us. Isaiah is speaking to the greatness of God. Not only is He all powerful, but He is vigilantly at work in your life. He knows both when you are hurting and when you are afraid. Not only that, but He has the strength to redeem any terrible situation from which you are suffering. That’s why He is worthy of your trust.
“I have come as light into the world, so that everyone who believes in me will not remain in darkness.”
When we live our lives trusting in something other than God, we are walking in darkness. As was stated in the 1 Corinthians passage above, God is the ultimate source of wisdom. Therefore if we put our trust in anything or anyone else, we are settling for an entity that doesn’t have the power to save us. Jesus is the light we must follow if we want to live the abundant life.
“When I am afraid I will put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?”
A common theme for David’s life was the struggle against mortal enemies, that’s why he is behind many of the Bible verses about trusting God. Here in Psalm 56 he is crying out to God for help following a series of physical and personal attacks. Although our battles may be different from David’s, we can still call on the Lord in our time of need. God is our ultimate protector. No one can harm us if God is intent on keeping us safe.
1 Chronicles 16:11
“Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face continually.”
Distractions are a dangerous part of the Christian walk. We may have the knowledge that God is in control and that we should trust Him, but other things can distract us and break up that connection. Whether it’s some kind of sinful habit or simply idolizing church over God, we need to remember that we should always be seeking the Lord. If our eyes are on Him we stand a better chance against the struggles of this life.
Isaiah 12:2 - Bible Verses About Trusting God
“Behold, God is my salvation, I will trust and not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and song, and He has become my salvation.”
In this verse we see that God is our eternal salvation as well as our best hope in this world. We can trust not only that we will one day be with Him in heaven, but also that He walks with us each day of our lives. No matter what fear is holding you back or what hardship stands before you, the Lord has your back.
“Truly I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that what he says is going to happen, it will be granted him. Therefore I say to you, all things for which you pray and ask, believe that you have received them, and they will be granted you.”
Can you imagine having the faith necessary to move a mountain? While Jesus may not literally be saying you can throw mountains with your mind, the important thing is that true belief means that you are not just going through the motions. Sure, praying is great, but if you’re doing it only to cross it off your checklist, then you’re squandering that relationship with the Lord. Believe that He can and will help you. It may not be in the way that you think, but you can still approach Him in confidence.
“Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
We shouldn’t be surprised that many of the Bible verses about trusting God come from difficult years in the history of Israel. Here God is telling His people, through the prophet Isaiah, that they could rely on Him. Though they were faced with trouble, God promises that He won’t forget about them and that He will always be their God.
“And without faith it is impossible to please Him, for He who comes to God must believe that He is and that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him.”
You can work your whole life trying to make God happy or work your way into heaven, but the Bible shows here that faith is fully necessary to pursue a relationship with God. We can’t approach God on our own terms. We have to be willing to trust Him. That’s what makes Hebrews 11:6 one of the great Bible verses about trusting God.
John 3:36 - Bible Verses About Trusting God
“He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”
Although we could have also mentioned John 3:16 as one of the Bible verses about trusting God, this verse from later in the same chapter highlights the differences between those who trust the Lord and those who do not. Eternal life is certainly one of the better selling points to trusting God, but we see here that the price of not following Him also includes a penalty of wrath.
“Thus says the Lord, ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns away from the Lord...Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord and whose trust is the Lord.”
Jeremiah 17:7 is often one of the choices listed in a collection of Bible verses about trusting God. We also wanted to add verse 5 for context here. Now there is a strong dichotomy formed between those who trust in mankind and those who trust in the Lord. We can choose to trust God or to believe in something that can’t save you.
These are just some of the many great Bible verses about trusting God. The Book of Psalms and the stories of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as well as the early Christian church, are all full of other great examples. We hope that these verses help you in your spiritual journey to grow closer with God and place your trust in Him.
You can also find many great Christian books and songs that speak to the importance of trusting the Lord.
